Ski & Sail, Norvège
From the 7th to 14th of april 2018, I have worked as a ski touring guide in east Lofoten, around Harstad
Jan knows very well this place, he boats around here for more than 25 years. Jan is a great captain, a very good chef and he is a good skier as well. All his knowledges will really help during the trip
In this part of Norway, the coast is sharped, fjords make a labyrinth and the sea influence a lot on the weather. We had to consider all those settings plus snow conditions to make all our decisions. That was not easy.
Every morning, Jan drop us off on a beach or an harbor, starting points of our ski tours. In the end of afternoons, we check mountain and sea weather forecast to take the decisions on our destination.
This mid april week, nothing is easy. There is some wind in the sea and in the moutain, it is snowing and raining, and the avalanch level risk is medium to strong.
We spend the first part of our trip in the south part of Harstad, around Tjeldoya area, and we went for the second part on a beautiful island in the north : Grytoya.
Here around Grytyoa, this is open sea, it’i wild really beautiful and preserved. The mountains are very nice and made for ski, from easy terrain to steep slopes.
Grytoya is a pearl, one of these magic places where I would like to spend couple of days more.
