The Lyngen Traverse,
The Lyngen traverse is a 7 days ski touring trip, conceived and created in a very professional way by Mikal Nerberg, a great Norwegian certified mountain guide, based in Lyngseidet.
This traverse propose 12 000 m vertical drop and 130 km long.
The both Lyngen’s peninsulas have some open huts, but of course without host and with too much distance between each. Here is the magic trick of Mikal, because he rents private huts in the valleys and supplies all the food for all the days in the cabins.
Mikal propose this traverse in may, in order to have good stability conditions and less people. He takes two clients per one guide, the traverse is serious and wild, technical in some places, I appreciate this way of guiding wich is confortable for guides and for clients.
He asked me to join him for the first traverse of the season, beggening of may 2018. Mikal is Norwegian and a local guide, and this ask is a honor for me.
We already worked together on Vulkana trip, and we had a great feeling and lot of similarities in the way of skiing and going in mountain.
For this traverse, the conditions were great, it snowed couple of days just before, and we had great ski every day, we made all the steps of this traverse, and we skied untouched snow every day.
The line conceived by Mikal is demanding, technical and bold. We ski lot of sloped wich are never skied during winter time, the days are long, there is a lot of transitions with skis, the terrain is changing all the time and the place is fantastic.
During all the traverse we won’t meet any skier
As the days goes, as we can see on the map the distance we made and the distance it rests to make.
As the days goes, as I can feel that we own to those mountains, and with all those days I’m getting more and more convinced that this ski touring raid is the most beautiful of Europe.
